Fractal Antenna Systems Sees High Growth In Outsource Strategy

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001--Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., today announced that it has adopted an integral and comprehensive outsource strategy to meet the needs of its growing OEM customer base in the wireless, telecom, and RFID industries.

The firm provides antennas built upon fractal shapes for smaller, broad/multiband uses and enjoys a proprietary position with its disruptive technology.

Nathan Cohen, Ph.D. chairman and CTO of the firm, remarked that the approach would allow the firm to extend its necessary and enabling technology to many more facets of these industries. "In the past, we have emphasized design services over deliverable product. Large scale manufacturing capabilities were part of our business model down the line."

"But things have changed," noted Cohen.

The volatile background of these industries has left many smaller electronic component companies taking big risks for astronomical payoffs. "And we see yet another chapter being written in 'Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds' ", chided Cohen, noting the huge investments in start-up component companies and the quick efforts to cut losses, sometimes within a framework of a year or less. "To be polite, such growth models were not sustainable, and negative margins were the norm."

Citing the naivete of such business models, Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc. has adopted a different approach, based on steady and solid growth with realistic margins and phasing in its ramp-up.

"We know our core competencies and we are the very best at what we do", noted Cohen," and we are where we need to be with R&D; IP; marketing; and sales".

Recent setbacks with outsourcing ESM's have proved a major opportunity for the firm. "The outsourcing opportunity for Fractal has never been better. Both domestic and overseas outsourcers have the resources, the pricing, and the commitment that allows us to leverage our core competencies with those of the outsourcers and build solid, long-term relationships. Our vast experience in project management and logistics assures us of high productivity with minimum risk.

"Put simply," says Cohen," we can deliver the best antenna technology for the very best value. Delivering product in custom to large lot sizes, we can now truly deliver the 'fractal advantage(TM)'".
