Fractal Antenna Systems Warns Spanish Firm Over Unauthorized Sales

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001--Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., today announced that it has sent the Spanish company Fractus, S.A., a request to cease and desist sales of fractal element antenna products into the United States and its possessions.

"These Fractus' products appear in violation of our patents," said spokesman Phil Salkind, "and Fractus has not been granted rights of any kind from our firm." He further added that any related agreements for licensing in the United States and possessions between Fractus and its customers are considered invalid.

Nathan Cohen, Ph.D., CTO of Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc, said that there was no confusion on the matter. The firm would pursue all available means to stop Fractus, S.A., and any other firms or entities from infringing on its intellectual property, which includes patents, copyrights, and trademarks. "For fractal element antennas, it really is quite simple. We came up with the innovation; we have acquired patents on the innovation; we sell the innovation as products. Protecting our IP is in the very best interest of our customers," said Cohen.

Cohen added: "We are ecstatic that the engineering community continues to re-discover and further validate the scientific benefits of fractal antennas, but transacting business for such applications is well within our purview."

Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., holds 3 U.S. patents on fractal antenna technology and has several pending patents, including foreign patents pending. The firm has seen high growth as fractal antenna technology becomes more widely known as a superior choice in the smaller-cheaper-multi/broadband environment of wireless, telecom, RFID, and other fields.

Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc. is based in Massachusetts and is privately held. It maintains its R&D and Products Facility at Telecom City (http://www.telcomcity.com) in Malden Massachusetts. Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc.'s web site is at http://www.fractenna.com.
