Leading Researchers Corroborate Science of Fractal Antennas

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)—December 18, 2002--Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc. reports a big step in efforts to grow market acceptance of its fractal antenna and electronic technology: acceptance of the science of fractal antennas.
Researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles, as reported recently by UCLA publications, professional society publications, and the trade press, have described how fractal antennas are an exciting new branch of antenna science and engineering, taking a seasoned field in a new direction.
Fractals are geometric shapes that repeat over a variety of scales and have the property of ‘self similarity’. Dr. Nathan Cohen, a physicist, radio astronomer, and retired Boston University professor discovered in 1988 that fractals possess useful antenna element characteristics. Cohen is the Chief Technology Officer of Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc.
The UCLA efforts are headed by Professor Yahya Rahmat-Samii, a well known leader in the field of antennas. As described by the UCLA researchers, their work points out the validity of fractal antennas as valuable means of making smaller, multiband antenna element, and tighter packed, versatile arrays. Such findings were first reported starting in 1995 by Fractal Antenna System’s scientists.
